Erik Pijnacker Hordijk is one of the most experienced lawyers in the Netherlands in the areas of EU law and competition law. He has represented companies in connection with merger control, cartels and misuse of a dominant position before the European Commission, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) and various other national competition authorities. Erik is also an experienced litigator. He has acted in more than 100 cases before the Court of Justice and the General Court of the EU including in several successful claims for damages against the Council and the European Commission concerning unlawful legislation. He has also handled many cases for the Dutch judicial authorities in his specialist area, including various cartel damages cases.
Erik has published widely and he is the co-author of the well-known book on procurement law entitled Aanbestedingsrecht, handboek van het Europese en Nederlandse aanbestedingsrecht. Erik speaks fluent English, French and German.
Erik made the move to Pels Rijcken in the summer of 2017. Before that, he worked for 34 years at De Brauw Blackstone where he had been a partner since 1991. Erik studied Dutch law at Utrecht University. He obtained a European master's degree at the College of Europe in Bruges.
